Creates a Secure Paperless Business Process; Integrates With Mortgage
Automation System and Microsoft Exchange
BELLEVUE, Wash., April 13 -- Captaris, Inc.
(Nasdaq: CAPA), a leading provider of Business Information Delivery
solutions, today announced Ellie Mae, a California-based provider of
software and services to the mortgage industry, is using Captaris RightFax
9.0 to capture and deliver paper documents into its Encompass(R) Mortgage
Automation System. The integrated solution reduced the time to process a
mortgage loan by up to two business days and solved compliance challenges
by securely delivering personal information.
"Using RightFax, borrowers experience higher reliability and confidence
in document delivery, while brokers receive the documents electronically
and immediately for faster, real-time processing," said Chris Lin, vice
president of infrastructure and e-commerce with Ellie Mae.
Forty-five percent of all loans transacted in the U.S. are originated
with Ellie Mae's Encompass, a collaboration platform and electronic
document management (EDM) system that allows mortgage data to be exchanged
electronically with trusted partners. But the system ran into a paper
problem that caused inefficiency and information security challenges.
Professionals in the mortgage industry traditionally depend on paper
documents and must find creative ways to manage, secure and store the
confidential information pertaining to borrowers' finances and employment.
Strict federal guidelines regulate the transfer and retention of such data
for privacy and security purposes. However, using old, manual methods to
gather, copy, bind and route files too often results in delays or
mishandling and errors. "If a broker prints and ships a loan package and it
is lost in the mail or somehow mishandled, he has just lost someone's whole
life -- credit, banking, financial, work history -- just imagine if it ends
up in wrong hands," said Lin. "Management, security and storage of
paper-based documents is difficult."
Captaris RightFax solved the problem by capturing and securely
delivering the paper-based documents directly into Encompass. Borrowers now
fax documents to Ellie Mae's RightFax server where they are automatically
routed to Encompass for collaboration by the team of mortgage
professionals. "RightFax extends our accessibility into the whole consumer
space, integrates with our loan origination package, and transfers the data
securely to the data exchange network," Lin said.
As a component of overall automation, RightFax helps to reduce mortgage
processing by one to two days per loan. Additionally, the integrated system
reduces error and saves money on paper supply and storage resources. Ellie
Mae also uses RightFax to deliver documents directly to the Microsoft
Exchange inboxes of several executives. The company installed RightFax with
help from Captaris solutions provider MTM Technologies, Inc.
